 aged organizations that provide input to the City of Atlanta on public saf
 ety\, permits\, land use\, planning (including variances & zoning)\, liquo
 r licenses\, and special events & festivals\, among other neighborhood mat
 ters. There are 25 NPUs across the city. They were created by Atlanta Mayo
 r Maynard Jackson in 1974 to elevate resident voices. NPUs typically meet 
 once a month to conduct business.
