The Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability is hosting citywide listening sessions to gather input on the search for a new Chief Administrator of the Chicago Office of Police Accountability.

This public hearing is taking place in the Johnson Center Building of North Park University (5141 N. Christiana Ave).

The purpose of the community commission for public safety and accountability (CCPSA) is to “bring police officers and Chicago residents together to plan, prioritize, and build mutual trust; strengthen the police accountability system.” Read more at chicago.gov/city/en/depts/…

The purpose of this evening’s public hearing is for CCPSA to hear directly from the community about the “COPA Chief Administrator search process.” Read more in CCPSA’s calendar of events at chicago.gov/city/en/depts/…

The meeting still has not started officially, but at check in this document is given out to attendees.

CCPSA Commissioner Angel Rubi Navarijo (representing the Northside) begins the hearing and makes opening statements at 6:50pm.


The first speaker mentions says “sexual assault cases are still a big issue,” when answering the question about the priorities of the new Chief Administrator.

Elizabeth Rochford, Nominating Committee, for the 17th police district council, makes a few statements.

One commenter says shares that he thinks that the new Chief Administrator should be an unbiased investigator and a good manager

The next commenter, Patrick L., says the new Chief Administrator should “let the city know how the investigations being done and the progress being made.”

Rochford asks about an update on where things are at as far as hiring. Remel Terry, CCPSA Vice President, responds that the search process is still going on.

The public hearing ended at 7:12pm. COPA and CCPSA will provide updates on the next public meeting.
