Chicago Commission on Public Safety and Accountability nominees, Ethics ordinance, Car booting on private property
Hi, I’ll be live-tweeting this afternoon’s @ChiCouncil Committee on Committees and Rules meeting for @CHIdocumenters #CHIdocumenters
01:33 PM May 24, 2022 CDT

Apparently we are waiting for some members of the committee to return from the police recognition luncheon

The meeting is called to order at 2:04pm. Roll is called, establishing a quorum. https://t.co/ureFuSo0i0

Moving on, the Rule 45 report has been approved by the committee.

Item 2: (O2022-466) Correction of City Council Journal of Proceedings of December 15, 2021
There are no questions. The committee passes the correction.

Item 3: (O2022-1100) Amendment of Municipal Code Chapter 2-156 by modifying various sections and adding new Section 2-156-301 regarding governmental ethics
This amendment is re-referred to the Committee on Ethics and Government Oversight, as approved.

Item 4: (O2022-1217) Amendment of Municipal Code Chapter 4-6 to repeal Section 4-6-230(g)(5) regarding booting of motor vehicles on private property
Ald La Spata asks his colleagues to vote against this item. Ald Harris doesn’t want to start a new discussion. https://t.co/4ZZhPRgPOn

La Spata says he’d prefer to refer this item to a joint committee.
It seems many of the present committee members are chiming and voting No on the agenda item.
Ald Harris - “I usually don’t get a lot of No votes around here.”

Some committee members are bewildered that they’re discussing voting on referring things.

Voting on the re-referral to Committee on License and Consumer Protection
Roll call vote:
Yes/No - 30/12
Item will be referred.

Item 5 (final) on the agenda is regarding 14 nominees for submission to the Mayor for her consideration for appointment to the interim Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability
Ald Osterman provides background on the Commission and reads the nominees’ names. https://t.co/bDo3tFbvCr
