LSC elections, Selective enrollment policy, Pre-K enrollment
Hi! I’ll live-tweet today’s Chicago Local School Council (LSC) Advisory Board meeting starting at 6 p.m. for #CHIdocumenters @CHIdocumenters. You can find the mtg link here: https://chicago.documenters.org/documents/agenda-69750/

For background: LSCs are the governing bodies for each district-managed school. Their responsibilities include approving academic plans, voting on school budgets and choosing principals.

This advisory board meeting comes just days before the 2022 LSC elections. The upcoming election will be held April 20 for elementary schools and April 21 for high schools. All voting is in-person this year and runs from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Director of LSC relations Kishasa Williams-Ford presents: 6,140 people are running, and 491 schools (96%) have enough candidates to meet quorum and form an LSC.

18 schools don’t have enough candidates for quorum. 10 of those candidates can call a special meeting to fill vacancies in July. 2 of those slots must be filled by parents or community members. 8 schools can’t reach quorum b/c “they don’t have the makeup needed to fill vacancies”

“Remind your colleagues to vote for themselves. They have to have at least one vote (to be seated),” Williams-Ford says.

Member at large Erica Nanton asks what the process is for counting votes when a candidate is running in two districts at once

Williams-Ford: We will share the relevant guidelines in a “clear and concise way” after receiving more information related to Nanton’s specific question. She agrees to add the vote-counting rules topic to New Business

“I think it’s important that candidates know the dynamics and understand these things going in,” Nanton says
