The preliminary Landmark Recommendation is the Harris Trust & Savings Bank in Ward 34, 111 West Monroe Street. They argue that the building fits criteria 4 and 5 to be considered as a landmark, including exemplary architecture and work of significant architect or designer

The building was constructed in 1911 by Shepley, Rutan, and Coolidge, and any additions were made by Skidmore, Owings, and Merril in 1960.

Next is the Preliminary Decision on Permit Application for Demolition Pursuant to §2-120-740 through §2-120-825 of the Municipal Code at Fulton- Randolph Market District Ward 27, on 906 West Fulton Market

The argument is that the demolition of the building will not impact the integrity of the historical landmark. The motion was carried and approved to move forward.

Next is the Citywide Adopt-a-Landmark Fund – Application Pentecostal Church of Holiness Ward 24, at 4208 West 15th Street

Advocating for removing stone caps, effloresces in the belltower, and shelter roof. The conditions of the approval would be submitting the work to the Historic Prevation Divison of the Department, hoping to start construction by this fall.

The Church was given landmark status in 2021, and community members hope this project of restoration will continue to preserve its history and integrity.

The amount the Church is asking from the Adopt-a-Landmarks Fund to assist with these renovations is $248,000. The motion is approved and carried.

Next is Class L Property Tax Incentive – Final Certification LaSalle Street Cable Car Powerhouse Ward 42, on 500 North LaSalle Street, it was approved as a Landmark in 2001

Asking for the certification that affirms the project was completed following architectural plans approved by the Commission and the budget and scope of work incorporated in the Class L Ordinance. The motion was approved.

Next is 2678 W. Washington in 27th Ward, proposed exterior and interior rehabilitation of the Main House, Dormitory, and Coach House including a new stair and elevator addition. This includes an expansion joint of two buildings.

Next is 904 W. Armitage, 43rd Ward, Armitage-Halsted District. The proposed excavation is the front yard to create new 10’-wide stairs and relocation of the front entrance at the basement level.

Next is 556 W. Fullerton, 43rd Ward, Mid-North District. The proposed replacement of the outer wythe of brick on the front elevation to address extensive deterioration issues.

Next is 4840 S. Greenwood,4th Ward, in the Kenwood District. The proposed relocation of the existing curb cut and 9-foot driveway from the north side of the property to the south side of the property and alterations to the historic fence.

Additional changes include the coach house. The owner will need to apply for required permits from the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) and address any landscape issues with the Bureau of Forestry.

Staffed by the Historic Preservation Division of the Department of Planning and Development (DPD), the commission is also responsible for reviewing proposed alterations to existing landmarks and districts, as well as proposed demolitions of structures considered to be historically or architecturally significant.
